Soli Sorabjee, former Attorney-General for India holds several offices in organisations of national and international repute. In India, he is Vice-President of International Law Association; International Institute of Human Rights Society. In an international capacity, he is Vice-President of Commonwealth Law Association and a Member of the United Nations Human Rights Commission on Minorities; Member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at the Hague; Member of the International Association of Constitutional Lawyers.

In March 2002, Sorabjee was awarded the Padma Vibhushan for his defence of the freedom of expression and the protection of human rights. He is the author of The Emergency, Censorship and the Press in India 1975-77 (1977) and other publications. He contributes a regular fortnightly column in one of the national dailies.

He gave a keynote address on the opening day of the event.
